Liquorice and dark chocolate dominate at first, accompanied by juniper berries and an earthy, almost mineral note. Cassis, elderberries and ripe blackberries emphasise the dark fruitiness. The Mediterranean terroir is revealed through thyme, black olives, pine and rosemary. Floral accents of violets, lavender and pansies lend the wine surprising elegance. Portal del Priorat was founded by Catalan architect Alfredo Arribas, who has been practising biodynamic viticulture for around 15 years. The 100% Carignan vines grow on the characteristic Llicorella slate soils, some of which are over 100 years old.
