A fascinating aromatic profile that begins with restrained precision. The vegetal notes of pea and fennel open the bouquet, before an intense herbal spiciness of Lemon grass<\/strong>, Thyme<\/strong> and Lemon balm<\/strong> emerges. Exotic fruit flavours of mango and pineapple develop on contact with the air and are perfectly balanced by a mineral, chalky undertone. The cool Alpine character of South Tyrol meets Mediterranean warmth here.<\/p>\n La Contessa has an impressive structural presence on the palate. The six hours of maceration give the wine a fine phenolic texture which, together with the nine months of ageing on the fine lees, ensures complexity and depth. The powerful centre is supported by a vibrant acidity that gives the wine tension and length. Subtle smoky flavours and a subtle toast from the wood barrel ageing complement the herbal spice and tropical fruit. The finish is long, precise and characterised by a remarkable alpine coolness.<\/p>\n This cuv\u00e9e from 55% Pinot Blanc<\/strong>, 28% Chardonnay<\/strong> and 17% Sauvignon Blanc<\/strong> combines grapes from two contrasting sites: two thirds come from the warm, west-facing Lieben Aich in Terlan with sandy, well-drained soils over porphyry, and one third from the cooler, east-facing Campan near Kaltern at an altitude of 500 metres with loamy-limestone soils. The challenging 2023 vintage, with its wet spring, hot summer and golden autumn, produced grapes of perfect ripeness.<\/p>\n The versatility of this wine is reflected in its accompanying qualities. Excellent with pickled whitefish with herb cream<\/strong>where the herbal notes of the wine emphasise the flavour of the dish. Equally suitable with Smoked trout with horseradish cream sauce<\/strong>whose smokiness harmonises with the subtle roasted notes of the wine.
