The aromas seem to have been sketched with a sharp pencil - precise, but not yet fully developed. A wine that needs and rewards time.<\/dd>\n<dt>Palate<\/dt>\n<dd>On the palate, the vine unfolds its full power: a <strong>Taut, sinewy structure<\/strong> meets juicy fruit and creates an electrifying tension. <strong>Citrus<\/strong>, <strong>Salt<\/strong> and <strong>Iodine<\/strong> dominate the opening, followed by <strong>white nectarine<\/strong>, <strong>white currants<\/strong> and again <strong>Apple peels<\/strong>. The <strong>pulsating acidity<\/strong> literally whips across the palate - nothing is pleasing here, it's all energy and vibration. A slightly tart astringency and <strong>Mineral saltiness<\/strong> provide additional complexity.<\/dd>\n<dt>Departure<\/dt>\n<dd>Long, <strong>saline<\/strong> and of impressive precision. The wine lingers with mineral freshness and a tension that invites you to take the next sip.<\/dd>\n<dt>Terroir &amp; origin<\/dt>\n<dd>The Riede <strong>Zieregg<\/strong> in southern Styria, more precisely the parcel <strong>Quarry<\/strong>, provides the foundation for this exceptional wine. Vines with an average age of 40 years are rooted on <strong>Coral limestone<\/strong> with brown soil at an altitude of 430-460 metres. The southern orientation and extreme slope inclination of 40-50% characterise concentration and minerality.<\/dd>\n<dt>Grape variety &amp; vinification<\/dt>\n<dd><strong>Welschriesling<\/strong> from hand harvest, <strong>spontaneously fermented<\/strong> and matured for 24 months in used barrels on the fine lees. <strong>Unadorned and unfiltered<\/strong> bottled - an uncompromising approach that gives the wine considerable ageing potential.<\/dd>\n<dt>Food pairing suggestions<\/dt>\n<dd><strong>Croquettes with swimming crab meat<\/strong>, <strong>Poussin with artichoke and salted lemons<\/strong> or <strong>Tacos with cauliflower wings and cucumber and pineapple salsa<\/strong> - the wine calls for dishes with substance and flavour.<\/dd>\n<dt>Special features<\/dt>\n<dd>This is not a pleasant terrace wine, but a serious, storable Welschriesling that impressively demonstrates the underestimated potential of this grape variety.
