Dominik Huber's Montsant project Terroir Sense Fronteres impressively proves that great wines do not necessarily have to come from the famous Priorat region. The Negre 2021 is a prime example of the new generation of Catalan red wines: fresh, elegant and remarkably enjoyable to drink.<\/p>\n
In the glass, the wine presents itself in a bright, transparent cherry red colour with delicate highlights on the rim - a visual indication of its light-footed, carefree character.<\/p>\n
The bouquet is extremely complex and seductive: Sour cherries<\/strong>, Cranberries<\/strong> and red berries<\/strong> dominate, underpinned by fine spicy notes such as Anis<\/strong> and Cinnamon<\/strong>. Subtle echoes of Cedar wood<\/strong> and Forest foliage<\/strong> lend depth, while floral notes of Violets<\/strong> and Roses<\/strong> contribute an almost feminine elegance. Particularly noteworthy: the cool Slate graphite note<\/strong>, which gives the wine its mineral freshness.<\/p>\n The Negre is at its best on the palate: invigoratingly fresh, with elegant fruit and fine-grained tannins that are perfectly integrated. The whole-cluster fermentation in stainless steel ensures a lively structure without overloaded extraction. A wine that invites you to have a second and third glass - exactly what makes a great everyday wine.<\/p>\n The grapes come from vineyards in Cap\u00e7anes, just a stone's throw away from Huber's legendary Priorat vineyard Les Manyes. The cuv\u00e9e from Grenache<\/strong> and Carignan<\/strong> was fermented as whole grapes in stainless steel - a conscious decision in favour of freshness and elegance rather than power and concentration. With a moderate 13% alcohol, this is a wine that emphasises finesse over power.<\/p>\n The Negre is an ideal accompaniment to Mediterranean cuisine: Tomato and peach gazpacho with feta<\/strong>, Scallops with avocado and red pepper<\/strong> or Veal stew with tomatoes and okra<\/strong>. Its freshness and elegance also harmonise wonderfully with grilled vegetables<\/strong>, Tapas<\/strong> or Pasta with tomato sauce<\/strong>.<\/p>\n What characterises the Negre is its accessibility without banality. Dominik Huber's signature is evident here: respect for the terroir, minimal intervention, maximum drinking pleasure.
