Info about the wine

The vines of this Pinot Blanc grow in a particularly steep parcel called "Scherben", which refers to the slaked limestone found in the partly bare barren soil. The grapes are very small and the yields correspondingly low, which ensures concentration, complexity and a pronounced minerality.

Over millions of years, the limestone here has crumbled into fragments that today literally look like shards.

Information on the expansion

The wines of the winery are all fermented spontaneously and do not receive any other additions except for a light filling sulphur shortly before bottling. The Pinot Blanc Shards was - if at all - only very coarsely filtered. It was fermented spontaneously and matured in older barriques.

Color

Brilliant golden yellow with clear green reflections.

Nose

The 2020 "Scherben" Pinot Blanc already offers a chalky revelation on the nose. Its attack is cool and focused; with oxygen, fine fruit notes of firm pear, grapefruit, apple as well as yeasty hints and the scent of meadow flowers and wild herbs emerge. The use of wood is present and at the same time very elegantly integrated. A lot of facet and complexity in the attack, you immediately feel like taking the first sip.

Palate

On the palate, it really packs a punch, lots of juiciness, salty impression, fresh, exploding bright fruit, animating citrus notes and a long finish as cool as a mountain spring. What a spectacular price-value ratio for a wine that singularly already sets standards and is a real enrichment with food.

Decant if possible and serve not too cold in a large Burgundy glass.

  • Smoked trout with fermented beetroot, celery and carrot
