Wine information

The grapes of the Vorgrimmlers come from the Tuniberg, a Jurassic limestone fault plate that folded up during the formation of the Upper Rhine Graben. On top of the Jurassic limestone lies a layer of loess of varying thickness. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and pressed slowly and gently so that the must and phenols that run off oxidise. The process is also called "browning". The must is then pre-clarified and fermented spontaneously in a stainless steel cuve. The wine remains on the full lees until bottling. Only at bottling do the Vorgrimmlers add minimal amounts of sulphur to the wine, bringing it to between 30 and 40 mg/l total sulphur. It is bottled without any additives and without fining with only very coarse filtration.

Nose

The Pinot Blanc 2021 by Klaus and Maj Britt Vorgrimmler has a powerful and intense bouquet with notes of crumbly apples and pears, some quince and ripe grapefruit. There are also notes of malt, aniseed and candied ginger. One thinks one can sense an extended standing time here and also the low-intervention approach; for the wine seems very open and inviting.

Palate

On the palate, the Pinot Blanc 2021 The juicy and mellow pome fruit appears again, this time with more ripe pear and furthermore with some pineapple and melon. Above all, the substance and the fine extract together with a lively silky acidity are impressive. The fine sweet yeast note also contributes to the wine's substance. Pinot Blanc gives it even more substance. A beautiful, creamy and elegant wine and really a lot of wine for the money!
