Wine information

Even though it is not far from the vineyard to Switzerland, the Walis is located in Baden, more precisely in the Markgräflerland, even more precisely in Efringen-Kirchen, where Hanspeter Ziereisen is at home. It is a high steep slope on Jurassic limestone, which can be found right next to an old limestone quarry. Facing south, it overlooks the Rhine. Depending on the vintage, the grapes are partially destemmed or fermented as whole clusters, then briefly foot-crushed in small wooden vats and fermented on the skins for about three weeks in moderate pigeage. The wine is then pressed on an old basket press. The wine is drawn off with hose and by fall pressure, is aged exclusively in used wooden barrels, predominantly Barriques and Pièces. No yeasts, no enzymes, no fining, no filtration and, depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg of added sulphur, usually less.

The fruit seems soft and warm, especially because the tannin caresses the palate extremely silky and a hint of vanilla provides additional well-being. But at the same time, the Pinot seems incredibly lively and full of energy. Lime just ...
