Color:

The wine presents itself in bright purple slightly translucent with garnet red rim clear and shiny in the glass.

Nose:

The 2017 Walis Pinot Noir from Forgeurac doesn't take long to make an appearance. It presents itself directly and is already wonderfully open-hearted and balanced at this very young stage.
Which could be his undoing....
Black cherries, lightly compote with a decoction of cold drawn red roiboos tea, cloves and allspice. Roasted plums and fresh figs. The delicate smoky spice of a sauna ham as well as that of brown bread that has just left the oven....
Earthy and dark-berried, this Pinot Noir is constantly changing, and that alone makes it a smelling delight.

Palate:

On the palate, the spice, slightly reminiscent of cold charcoal and rendered bacon, underpins the fully ripe fruit. Despite all its power, Walis presents itself captivatingly thoughtful and full of meticulous precision on the palate. It is soothingly velvety and cuddly without being submissive. The ripe tannin finds balance through a moderate acidity. In small parts, this is a resting, expressive Pinot in the tightly laced shoes of a long-distance runner.

Food recommendations by Peter Müller:

  • Grilled red peppers with buckwheat, grainy cream cheese and balsamic shallots (vegetarian)
    (Cheese, Vegetable & Vegetarian)
  • Braised pork cheeks with Vichy carrots, lentils and potato soufflé
    (Meat, Vegetable & Vegetarian)
  • Goose giblets with eggplant puree, brown garlic butter and chickpeas
(Poultry, Goose (meat), Vegetable & Vegetarian)
