The wine is full on fruit right now, and if you like that, now is the time to enjoy this Volnay, especially since the tannin already seems decidedly silky. The Volnay exudes aromas of ripe redcurrants combined with violets and rose petals, juicy cherries and a hint of vanilla from the wood, which together achieve an almost creamy character.

Wine information

The vineyards of Volnay are located between Monthélie and Meursault in the southwest and Pommard in the northeast. There are 98.37 hectares of Volnay Village and 114.9 hectares of Volnay Premier Cru, of which the Les Santenots site alone covers 29.07 hectares. The special thing about the Les Santenots vineyard, which was first mentioned in 1218, is that it is actually located entirely in the Meursault district, but the red wines are produced as a Volnay since there is no red Meursault may give. Les Santenots has a high clay content, which makes the red wines somewhat more powerful and richer in texture. At the same time, however, the wines always retain the fine tannin of a Volnay.

Rémi Jobard fermented the wine spontaneously with 80 % whole grapes. Like his Chardonnays, his Pinots mature in Stockinger barrels and tonneaux.

transparent, bright ruby red

Nose

The colour alone, but even more so the scent of the Les Santenots stand almost archetypically for a Volnay and thus clearly distinguish themselves from the Monthélie from the same house. The Volnay is always the lighter, somewhat more perfumed and red-berry wine of the two, right from the start. It takes you by the hand from the first moment and you have no problems getting involved with it. The Volnay exudes aromas of ripe red currants combined with violets and rose petals, juicy cherries and a hint of vanilla from the wood, which together achieve an almost creamy character. At the same time, there is a cool vein that suggests tension and freshness.

Palate

In fact, the Volnay the creamy, the red berry and the freshness come together wonderfully on the palate. The fruit seems absolutely young and juicy. The wine is just full on the fruit, and if you like that, now is the time to enjoy this Volnay especially since the tannin is already very silky. But there is much more to the Premier Cru. There is the very precise use of wood, which gives the wine a very good structure. And there is a cool stoniness and a ripe but lively and supporting acidity that promises good potential.
