Sparkling golden yellow, bright reflections
Nose
Viura does not really stand for high aroma density. Lemon tart with burnt meringue and some caramelised quince are the first associations. It presents yellow fruits in all variations baked, dried, candied. Grilled pineapple contributes plenty of roasted aromas. Blackcurrant bush wood reveals itself spicy, earthy and with green accents. The maturity in the wooden barrel is noticeable and makes it seem very mature and adult in its current stage. It has shed its youthful charm with all its advantages and disadvantages. Yeast and fruit seem neither loud nor superficial. Notes of roasted almonds, pistachios and a little curry surround it.
Palate
On the palate, 2017 Viñas de Gain lives from a good mix of juiciness, pressure and a very well integrated acid structure. The 2017 example of this classic is characterised by high elegance and clear aromas. The wood seems much more restrained than in the past. For all its density in terms of structure, it is underpinned by a cool, clear note. Linear, precise and extremely persistent on the palate. The yellow fruits come to the fore in all facets in the finish.
