2019 Vignaverde, Sicilia DOP, Marco de Bartoli, Marsala, Sicily/Italy
The Vignaverde is Marco de Bartoli's entry-level Grillo. The grapes for it are in the Contrada Samperi near Marsala, planted in 1996, not far from the sea in a depression below sea level. They are harvested early by hand, often starting as early as the third week of August for the Vignaverde. The fermentation of the press juice is done spontaneously with wild yeasts in steel tanks, where the wine lays on the fine lees for six months until bottling, before being filled with minimal sulfur.

Nose
The 2019 Vignaverde from Marco de Bartoli is the entry ticket into de Bartoli's multi-faceted world of Grillo. Youthfully fresh on the nose, it is reminiscent of freshly mown grass and crunchy pome fruits such as green apples and pears. Underpinned by discreet yeast notes, it is completed by the impression of a fresh sea breeze.
Mouth
On the palate it is juicy with ripe fruit and is contoured by fine phenolic. On the palate, it is slightly yeasty with clear, vibrant fruit and an animatingly tart finish. Already in the entry-level segment, the Grillo as a wine with a clear origin proves the strengths of the autochthonous grape variety compared to the often uniform and interchangeable white wines of Sicily.
