In 1435, the Guild of Vigneri was founded in Catania in the shadow of Mount Etna. This association of winemakers had the goal of teaching the younger generations how to grow vines and make wine on the highest volcano in Europe. Almost six centuries later, Salvo Foti has reestablished the I Vigneri. The Vigneri master all the work that is done in the vineyards during the year, just as it has always been on Etna They prune the vines, plow, repair the dry-stone walls, etc. Apart from the strength of their hands, they can only count on the help of mule Gino. In addition to advising the currently six I Vigneri wineries, Salvo Foti also produces his own wine according to the principles of the Vigneri Tree Vines (Alberello), native grape varieties, protection of the environment and respect for people.
