Casal Vegri comes from the vineyard of the same name in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. The cuvée of 70% Corvina, 20% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella and Molinara are grown at 150 to 300 metres above sea level with an eastern exposure. The soils are mainly clay-limestone with a high percentage of rocks and stones. Hand-picked, the grapes are fermented in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks at a maximum of 25°C, after which the wine is aged in 3000-litre barrels for 18 months. Before it goes on sale, it matures for another six months in the bottle.
Color
Bright ruby red, transparent and clear.
Nose
The nose of the 2018 CasalVegri by Ca' la Bionda entices with its brilliant floral appearance of mallows and small violets. Underpinned by a whole basket of fully ripe cherries such as sour cherries, Cornell cherries and cordials, its bright red fruit is spicily grounded by green almonds and hazelnut shells.
Mouth
With taut juice on the nose, this Valpolicella is also dominated by cherries in their transparent red radiance. With fruity finesse and silky tannin, it is youthful on the palate with shimmering extract and acidity-controlled, finely chiselled finish. A light-hearted benchmark Valpolicella without airs and graces.
