A look at the 2013 Tros de Clos reveals a deep black red of impressive intensity that only loses itself in violet nuances towards the rim. Before soaking up the wine's bouquet, be sure that the finesse does not overlook its minerality. This promises a cooler, more complex nose that, after a while, comes up with intense herbal aromas as well as scents of blackberries, blueberries, rowan berries and cassis. Flavour highlights are spicy notes of cardamom, juniper and sandalwood, which give the Burgundian wine an oriental touch - an unexpected twist that creates tension.

On the palate, it asserts itself with the same striking minerality as on the nose. Despite its opulent richness, this drop comes across as unusually elegant, supported by a refreshing acidity and a fine-grained tannin structure. The taste of oak has completely faded into the background, which makes you want to enjoy it immediately. Nevertheless, one might be rewarded with a little patience - after all, wines from almost 100-year-old Carignan vines are known for their ability to get even better with time.

If you can't resist the temptation and want to drink the wine immediately, you should definitely decant it first. Even a few days of bottle opening can really improve it!

There are plenty of options for matching dishes. A mushroom and root vegetable pie is a good choice, or if you prefer meat, a tender grilled lamb with fresh salad would be a great addition. For the more adventurous palate, pairing this wine with a hearty game dish could be surprisingly enjoyable. For example, a venison medallion with a side of wild rice and chocolate chilli sauce could make a delicious combination.
