Color:
A clear and shiny lemon yellow with a foam crown that rears up joyfully and only slowly recedes into the glass and bubbles with a fine perlage.
Nose:
Densely interwoven and fanning out in many layers, the aromas of this Blanc de Blancs from 100% Chardonnay, which go straight into the depths, ride along at a gallop on the honey cake horse and immediately cast their spell. A pleasant scent of freshly baked croissants with hazelnut filling, sourdough bread and almond speculoos with marzipan tickles the nose. This is joined by unobtrusive fruit and floral aromas. Sharon fruit, Charentais melon and fresh fig are refreshed by tangerine zest. The fragrant herbaceousness of basil, cucumber peel and chervil add light-footed freshness to the enticing overall picture. Meanwhile, the wine finds its grounding through delicate nutty notes of pistachio and cashew.
Palate:
At the latest on the palate, the initially inscrutable poker face turns into a victorious smile, because the 2014 Trépail Premier Cru Extra Brut from Benoit Marguet has a very good hand and knows how to play it.
Royal flush.
The delicate and balanced, yet vitalizing perlage prances teasingly across the palate, as if it wanted to seduce unconditional devotion by means of a high-carat and spirited flamenco choreography. The citrus freshness of the nose is reinforced by a tense arc of acidity while, with 0g dosage per litre, this epitome of a vintner's Champagne gets its structure and length from minerality chiselled in stone.
Gosh, does that feel right!
