Dark garnet with black core.
Nose
The nose of Remírez de Ganuza's 2009 Trasnocho is rampant with its pleasures of leather, dark tobacco leaf, vanilla and espresso owed to the 22 months of aging in new French oak. Dark fruits like blackberries and Amarena cherries follow, and there's also a bit of marzipan covered in dark chocolate. An ethereal note of eucalyptus and wild herbs rounds out the first impression. At its current stage, this wine should be caraffed for at least half a day.
Mouth
On the nose, the Trasnocho is taut and firm. A tightly laced corset of firm and youthful tannins gives it bite and stature. Behind it slumbers the ripe, dark fruit that casts a flowing robe over the dense body. The complex tannic framework is supported by the cool minerality that gives it backbone. The blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Grecanico and 5% from the white grape varieties Viura and Malvasia is designed for long bottle aging. Aristocratic, contemporary Rioja of the best construction. Large glasses are strongly recommended for timely enjoyment.
