Color
Deep amber.
Nose
The nose shows itself like a kaleidoscope or the facet eye of a fly of fabulous complexity and variety. Slightly spicy notes in the attack remind of white pepper and bright rotary tobacco before the noble lazy aroma of the botrytised berries shines through and is underlaid by light carbolic notes that remind of a good Islay whiskey. Quince bread, peach syrup and honeycomb follow, richly filled and dripping before an old leather chair and a jar of floor polish creep into view. On the table a bowl of raisins. Still Life.
Mouth
On the palate, the 2001 Essencia from Királyudvar seems surprisingly well packed with 464 grams of residual sugar. Viscous on the palate with an oily texture and high density, it is reminiscent of Darjeeling tea, orange oil and candied orange peel and is balanced by a ripe and fine acid nerve. A firework of flavours with an ambrosial aftertaste and prospects for the next 50 years - Minumum.
