Wine information
The Pinot Noir comes from four plots totalling 0.78 hectares in Volnay on the lower, middle and upper parts of the slope. The average age of the vines is 55 years. However, some vines, such as those above Clos des Chênes, are around 80 years old. These are deep soils with a clay layer on a limestone base. Fermentation took place in open vats for about three weeks, ageing over 20 months in barrels. The proportion of new wood was 30 %.
Color
medium garnet red, slightly transparent
Nose
The Volnay »Vieilles Vignes« 2019 still shows a slight reduction note of flint, a little iron and petrol, but this disappears quite quickly with air. Then the space opens up for sweet as well as sour cherries, some pomegranate, blood orange peel and raspberries, but also a little stone and some pepper. The iron continues to resonate.
Palate
On the palate the Volnay »Vieilles Vignes« 2019 a dark, crisp fruit with slightly meaty notes, herbs and a little sloe and chokeberry, undergrowth and again a slight iron and reduction note as well as a hint of umami. The wine appears impressively grippy and stringent in its clear and precise acid structure. The tannin is silky fine and elegant, it already offers the firm fruit a very good stage.
