Wine information
The Vine Old Vines comes from the Ried Zieregg vineyard, specifically from the so-called quarry with a high proportion of coral and shell limestone, where ancient Welschriesling vines stand. The wine was spontaneously fermented down to 1.1 grams of residual sugar. The 2019 Welschriesling lay for 22 months on the fine yeast in neutral 500 tonneau and was then bottled unfiltered.
Color
medium straw yellow with light green reflections
Nose
The Vine Old Vines also shows the potential of the Welschriesling variety for complex wines in the 2019 vintage. The wine fascinates with its mixture of fruit and peel, spice and herbs with tart notes and proper juice. It reminds of meadow herbs, grapefruit and apple peel, mango, guava and pineapple, some hops, nuts and a little flint.
Palate
On the palate the 2019s Vine Old vines even a little more complex and juicy. It delivers a ripe white fruit, shows some tobacco, hops and peel again, some tart aromas, a juicy pear, nuts and some cardamom. The Welschriesling comes across as lining, salty, spicy and long. This is a wine as demanding as it is satisfying, with impressive tension.
