Wine information

The Zieregg vineyard is Tement's local mountain. It has become world-famous due to the extraordinary achievements of the family. It is characterised by coral limestone and limestone weathering rock, which was formed in a former mighty coral reef. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 330 to 490 metres. The Morillon growing on it comes from 40-year-old vines from the oldest part of the Zieregg. The wine was fermented spontaneously to a residual sugar of 1.1 grams with 6.4 grams of acidity, then aged for 24 months on the fine lees in perennial barriques and bottled unfiltered.

Nose

Even the Rieden and STK Morillons from Tement have their own unique character. At Ried Zieregg Morillon this is taken to another level. It becomes a filigree as well as haunting and in its depth also very powerful monument. The Morillon Zieregg opens with a very subtle wood spice combined with some tobacco, smoke, tonka bean and nuts - everything is very fine and quiet. With air and warmth, the fruit of peaches and vine plums, grapefruit and apples come to the fore a little. Then again, meadow herbs and pine needles become present with a hint of nougat.

Palate

On the palate the Zieregg absolutely precise, finesse-rich and clear. The Chardonnay appears sinewy, slender and at the same time deep and complex, but also playful and lively in its bright, penetrating fruit and the fine spice that accompanies it. The Ornamental Giant Morillon is extremely juicy, and the citrus fruit along with its acidity is quite demanding and, together with the stony presence and the electrifying minerality, cool and full of tension. At the same time, the wine remains elegant and has great potential. It is probably one of the greatest Chardonnay wines to be found in Austria, and it also plays a leading role internationally.
