Wine information
The Welschriesling Veitlhansl comes from the Ried Ottenberg vineyard, which lies 330 metres above Ehrenhausen. The soil is characterised by clayey calcareous sandstone. The wine was spontaneously fermented down to 1.1 grams of residual sugar. The Welschriesling was left on the fine yeast in neutral 500 tonneau for 22 months and was then bottled unfiltered.

pale straw yellow
Nose
The Tements have raised Welschriesling, an Austrian variety that is usually treated rather neglectfully, to a new level. This is noticeable in the Veitlhanslwhich is again concise and strong in character in 2019. The Welschriesling is reminiscent of yellow apples and green pears including their skins. In addition, there are notes of nashi pears, quince and grapefruit zest as well as a whole battery of fine spicy notes of nuts, herbs, a little tobacco and hops, anise, ginger and meadow flowers.
Palate
On the palate the 2019s Welschriesling punchy, juicy, tonic and mineral with white-fleshed as well as slightly yellow-fleshed fruit, some pineapple and lime, again ginger and a little tonic. The wine has a pleasant acid bite and a spicy tart note on the finish. This is impressively complex and certainly a reference to this grape variety in this style and price range.
