Wine information

The sauvignon blanc Grassnitzberg reed comes from the closed Kessellage Grassnitzberg with sandy-loamy mussel weathered limestone soils, specifically from the more than 60-year-old Riff parcel in the Ried Grassnitzberg. The wine was spontaneously fermented down to 1.2 grams of residual sugar and aged for 24 months in neutral wooden barrels on the fine lees and bottled unfiltered.

Nose

The Grassnitzberg is a Sauvignon Blanc of great independence and finesse. At present, it is still slightly reductive with smoke and pop powder, but discreet and already pleasantly interwoven with notes of herbs and hay, lemongrass and citrus zest, a little pineapple and gooseberry, green tea and nettle leaves. The wine already appears punchy and fresh on the nose, cool and stony, almost peppery and salty.

Palate

On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc is racy fresh with electrifying minerality and lots of salt lemon. In addition, there are herbs and capers, cassis and elderflower, a juicy peach and a crisp apple, grapefruits and lime. On the one hand, this comes across as powerful, on the other hand, it is playfully light because it strives upwards and seems airy. This is a wine that can be drunk now with great pleasure, even though one should not really do so yet, as it will only reach its typical aromas and full tension and complexity in about five years. The potential clearly points to the outgoing 2030s.
