Info about the wine

One part of the hand-picked organic grapes for this wine from old vines grew on the hot, slatey and limy southern side of the Tannenberg, another on its cooler, slatey and quartzy northern side. Thus, it combines the whole range of this extraordinary mountain on the Leithagebirge.

Info about the expansion

Hand harvest and selection, followed by spontaneous fermentation and 20 months of ageing in 500 litre wooden barrels, one year of bottle ageing.

Color

Muted garnet red with delicate lightening towards the rim, delicate violet reflections.

Nose

The Tannenberg 2013 is pure power. Dark, fine fruit fullness of blackberry, sloe, blueberry, elderberry and black currant pairs with clear herbal spice of cassis leaf and nettle. Intense spice notes of juniper, juniper wood, allspice, ammonium chloride and freshly cracked black pepper round it out expertly. A lot of stony minerality indicates that this wine is still at the beginning of its development despite advanced maturity and needs a lot of air and time.

Palate

Cool, complex, powerful and mineral, the 2013 Tannenberg presents itself on the tongue. Its fresh acidity and fine tannin structure is wonderfully embedded in its fantastic dark berry fruit fullness. Despite the stony minerality and the present use of wood, which refers to its youth, a fine and sweet note is added in the aftertaste, which gives it the perfect charming touch.

Recommendation
