Wine information
This Syrah is a local wine; because unlike the 2017. EntrefromWhile the Syrah came from very sandy soils, this one is characterized by limestone and gravel, as offered by the vineyards of Barroux. Harvested in September 2018, the Syrah was destemmed at 75 % and fermented in concrete cuve for 20 days before being aged in enamel cuve for 18 months.
Color
dark, almost opaque purple
Nose
At first, this Syrah seems very slightly reductive with a little pop of aromatics. But then it becomes a pure Syrah violets, pepper, raw meat, peat and cold smoke meet blackberries, blackcurrants and plums. These are ripe but crisp and fresh, pithy and slightly cool.
Palate
On the palate, this 2018 vintage is another spectacular Syrah from Ventoux, with an impressive balance of freshness and ripeness, pithy but again ripe tannin, a wave of vibrant acidity and that purple blackness that is unique to Syrah. It's the mix of very dark fruit, charcoal, aged beef, violets and a bit of beetroot, olive tapenade, earth and stone that comes together here - combined with some light toasty notes of coffee. What a juicy and fleshy wine!
