2019 Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Domaine Weinbach, Kayserberg, Alsace/France
Domaine Weinbach's Sylvaner comes from old vines in the Clos des Capucins monopollage of sandy silt soils on granite pebbles. The grapes from this terroir ripen early and produce wines with complex aromatics and concentration.
To keep yields low, the vines are raised in single rather than double Guyot. After manual harvesting, the whole grapes are gently pressed and fermented spontaneously with their own yeasts in old, neutral wooden barrels, where it then matures for eight to ten months.
Color
Bright straw yellow with green reflections, bright and clear.
Nose
The 20129 Sylvaner of the Domaine Weinbach shows itself in the nose typical for the variety and clear as a bell. Yellow apples, apple peel, small plump pears and some nectarine are herbaceously underlaid by chervil, sorrel and freshly mown summer meadow. With lime blossom in the top notes, this juicy, uncomplicated Sylvaner is surprisingly fun to drink.
Mouth
The aromas of the nose are joined on the palate by a green tangerine and some pink grapefruit. The fruit is tartly contoured by fine phenolics, the aromatics carried by the ripe acidity, which acts as a leitmotif in this Sylvaner and stretches from the start to the finish. Springlike Sylvaner vibration in Alsatian interpretation.
