Out of stock

The 2019 SP68 from Occhipinti presents itself youthfully, dominated by fresh fruit reminiscent of cool raspberries, blueberries and intensely sour cherries. The overall impression on the tongue is also wonderfully refreshing, the dark berry and cherry fruit combines with fine minerality and a very stimulating acidity.

Info about the wine

SP68? That's the Autostrada SP68, which winds through the Sicilian countryside behind the vineyard near Vittoria, with white and blue signs marking the way. The red version of SP68 is a blend of 70 % Frappato and 30 % Nero d'Avola, as opposed to a Cerasulo di Vittoria, where the proportion of Nero d'Avola must be at least 50 %. The vineyard is located at 280 meters and is characterized by terra rossa soils with chalk inclusions. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine remains on the grape skins for 15 days, is aged in concrete tanks for six months and bottled unfiltered.

Color

Dense, slightly cloudy violet red with ruby reflections.

Nose

The 2019 SP68 from Occhipinti presents a youthful appearance dominated by fresh fruit reminiscent of cool raspberries, blueberries and intense sour cherries. Its seductive character is intensified by the floral scent of violets, lavender and wild roses. It gets a Mediterranean touch from wild rosemary, thyme and juniper. Everything is beautifully framed by its stony and delicately smoky character, which will come to the fore even more with further maturation.

Palate

Wonderfully refreshing also the overall impression on the tongue, the dark berry and cherry fruit combines with fine minerality and a very stimulating acidity. It drinks with an unbelievable lightness and seems almost floating also by its low alcohol of only 12.5 Vol%. It is best enjoyed on a warm summer night on the balcony or terrace with dishes from the grill and dishes with Mediterranean, of course preferably Italian, flair.
