Xarello

Xarel-lo (Catalan pronunciation: [ʃəˈɾɛlːu]) is a white grape variety of Spanish origin grown specifically in Catalonia.
Very high-quality cavas are produced in which the grape is prominently represented. For example, single-varietal in the Turó d'en Mota from Recaredo.

Xarello wine can be strongly spicy and is more aromatic than the other two Cava grape varieties. With Macabeo and Parellada, it is one of the three traditional varieties used to make the sparkling wine Cava.

While historically the grape was only used as part of regional blends in Penedès and Cava, contemporary winemaking has also moved towards single varietal wines in the last 20 years.
