Color
The wine shows a rich garnet red with an opaque core and brick-coloured rim, clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
The first nose suggests a paradox of comforting warmth from ripe vintage and plucky, rugged rusticity. Dried fruit aromas of figs, dates and plums cavort, almost with the grace of a dark chocolate glaze. Alongside the spice of roasted peanuts and chestnuts and black truffle, this black fruit lends an inner balance to the single-varietal Sangiovese. This in harmony with each other suggests power, which, however, paints a very balanced picture.
Palate
The tannin of this wine, sheer brute, like the thicket of the Tuscan hills, has needed the time it was given to reach softness. Dark berried, rich and powerful bodied or unkempt, yet honest and with good heart, it comes across; the 2013 Sono from Montenidoli. Its fruity notes, subtly reminiscent of rum pot, multiply on the palate and its sturdy framework gives the wine a persistent length.
