Today, VinoLauria is based on generations of experience and combines family tradition with modern oenology. In the heart of Sicily, a good 65km southwest of Palermo, the winery is located in the free communal consortium of Trapani. The family business was founded as early as 1958 by Vito's grandfather, but was abandoned in 1993 due to economic difficulties. Vito Lauria, who is deeply rooted in his homeland, then harboured the desire to revive the winery and to carry his family's vinophile heritage into the future. Familiar with his grandfather's working methods from an early age, he decided to study viticulture and oenology.
The vineyards of the winery were already farmed organically before the child even got its name. The preservation of the soils, the foundation of its home and its vines, is the guarantor for wines that are true to their origin. The production of a dry Zibibbo is one of the latest additions to the farm. Grown in the chalky soils around Salemi, the grapes produce a dry, aromatic, floral wine. Harvested in early September, the Solerte Zibibbo Macerato is the first experiment with extended maceration, also fermented in steel.
Color
Orange with changing reflections from amber to copper and slight cloudiness.
Nose
The expressive nose sings the high song of the Zibibbo paired with the advantages of the high-quality Darjeeling. The fruit of the 2021 Solerte Zibibbo Macerato by VinoLauria shows its dried and candied side, underpinned by tart notes reminiscent of sage and young rosemary. In addition, there are floral overtones of orange blossom water and very fine tea along with subtle malty notes. A multifaceted nose in constant change like a kaleidoscope leads the lips expectantly to the goblet.
Mouth
This bone-dry orange wine does not negate the grape variety by design, nor does it capriciously indulge in profane tannic excesses. Rather, it combines the aromatics of the almost cheeky Zibibbo with a highly stimulating phenolic structure, which gives the low acidity additional tailwind and thus freshness to the overall appearance. Ideal for easy drinking as well as for strong-flavoured Sicilian food.
