Tasting note from from 07.06.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet met at the agricultural college in Perpignan, but initially went their separate ways. It was their shared passion for horses and later wine that brought them together again. At that time, Stéphane worked on a larger farm in Maury, while Marjorie gained her first practical experience in biodynamics in Calce near Gauby. In 2003 she borrowed money from friends and started her own business. The area that gave her her name was actually called Roc Blanc, named after a white quartz vein that protrudes from the black slate. However, Marjorie decided to change the name to Roc des Anges, which means Angel Rock. In the meantime, the winery is one of the top addresses in the region and comprises 30 hectares of vines on a mosaic of different soils.

The Segna de Cor is an anagram of the winery name. The cuvée comes from the youngest Carignan, Grenache and Syrah vines of the winery and is grown on pure slate soils. With its youthful charm, it offers uncomplicated wine enjoyment for any occasion on any day.

Color

Dark ruby with black core and violet reflections.

Nose

The nose of the 2019 Segna de Cor by Roc des Anges is almost bursting with red fruits. Red fruit jelly, blackberries and blueberries are tartly flanked by elderberries and cranberries with floral top notes. Hovering over everything is a good pinch of black pepper, bay leaf and wet slate after a warm summer rain.

Mouth

Super-juicy with rich fruit and animatingly tart tannin, this fine red from the warm south has a drinkability like a white. The tannin is aromatically reminiscent of high-proof chocolate without an ounce of sugar, the acidity lends a rapid drinking pull and ties in with the feel of the wine, whose fruit seems to float like a zeppelin above the clear slate minerality.
