Info
Bodegas Artazu is an offshoot of the Artadi family. In neighbouring Navarre, they are fully dedicated to the Garnacha grape variety here.
Color
Bright purple, violet reflexes
Nose
The nose seems subtle, dark and floral. The cool Atlantic is close at hand. Fortunately, the 2018 Santa Cruz de Artazu bristles with depth rather than power. Blue and purple flowers clearly open the bouquet. These are joined by sour cherries, blackberries and cassis. The fruit is always light, never oversized. A subtle ethereal tone of eucalyptus and mint adds plenty of tension. In the background, red pepper and bread crust can be sensed.
Palate
It can hardly deny the cool climate of its origin. On the palate, it is gripping and taut. The Garnacha lives from a decent acid structure and is literally in the juice. In the context of its grape variety, it stands slender and racy in the glass. On warm days, it can definitely cope with a slightly cooler serving temperature. The berry fruit resonates intensely in the finish.
