Wine information
This wine is the late filling of old vines of the varieties Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon from old vineyard sites with weathered soils in southern Styria. The wine was aged for 36 months in barrique and further years in bottle.
Color
intense garnet red with light purple reflections
Nose
Who would have thought that Southern Styria would produce wines that one would rather locate in Bordeaux? Already at the Zweigelt selection the association arises quite clearly, even more so with the RT (RT stands for red cement). Because here, not only the Zweigelt is vinified in Bordelais style, but especially the Cabernet Sauvignon. Thus, the wine shows itself from a wonderfully matured, elegant and characterful side with the scent of distinctive wood of best provenance, some cedar, dark chocolate and laurel, tobacco and dark fruits like black cherries as well as with a hint of cassis, blueberries and blackberries.
Palate
On the palate, the wine delivers warmth and coolness at the same time, with alcohol levels that Bordeaux can usually only dream of. Warm is the fruit of dark forest berries and cherries, accompanied by a little tar, black ink and spices. Cool is the mineral stony impression, which at the same time provides liveliness together with the ripe acidity. The tannin is structuring as well as fine-grained and the finish is of good length. The RT Old Vines is not only a surprise, it is above all an extremely attractive red wine from the house of Tement.
