The Grand Gouttes site covers 1.5 hectares and is located in the south of the commune of Meursault, barely 500m from the Premier Cru site of Charmes. The Lieu-dit, not far from Puligny-Montrachet, enjoys the status of a great regional appellation with its chalky and clayey soils.

The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by whole bunch pressing without prior crushing, followed by two days of sedimentation in concrete. The fermenting must is then pumped into French oak barrels without new wood, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. After 20 months of ageing, some SO2 is added before bottling.

Color

Bright straw yellow.

Nose

Under initial delicate reduction, the fine fruit slumbers, showing itself tentatively at first. With a little air, the whiteness of lemon emerges, followed by ground oyster shells, yellow apple peel and tart kitchen herbs reminiscent of sage, chervil and tarragon. Finally, it blossoms and its floral overtones adorn the ripe stone fruit notes, giving it a joyfully fruity overall appearance.

Mouth

Taut and vital on the palate, it is more reminiscent of Meursault than Puligny and pulsates with an agile acidity and good inner tension on the palate. The stringent citrus fruit of cedro lemons and pomelos is flanked by tart phenolic. The 2019 Côte d'Or "Les Grandes Gouttes" from the Domaine Rougeot Pére & Fils is rich in extract and flows with a floating balance into the salty, cool finish.
