Wine information

A is pure red Traminer is the Freyheit, i.e. a wine from the family to which Savagnin and Gewürztraminer also belong. It comes from fossil-rich limestone with eroded mica slate in Kollern near Breitenbrunn. It was harvested at the end of August, spontaneously fermented and left on the skins for 19 days, then slowly pressed with a basket press. It was then aged for 17 months in 600-litre cellar amphorae. It was then bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulphur. Please turn the bottle beforehand to integrate the sediment into the wine. Ideally, the wine should be caraffed.

Color

somewhat cloudy orange with very light copper reflections.

Nose

What a concentrated and intense fragrance pours out of the glass here. The Red Traminer Freyheit leaves no doubt as to which grape variety family it comes from. Here, notes of rose petals and rose oil combine with oranges and orange blossoms, tangerines and honeyed rhyme as well as candied ginger, soft apricots and bitter orange marmalade. There are also notes of American aromatic hops, a touch of bergamot and Szechuan pepper. The wine has a certain sweetness and warmth on the nose.

Palate

On the palate, the Traminer offers a wonderfully dense picture of red as well as yellow fruit in combination with a stiff grippy texture. Warmth and sweetness, present in the aroma, are here largely replaced by a lively acidity in the ultimately bone-dry wine. And although largely fully fermented - two grams of residual sugar are still present - there remains that suggestion of sweetness brought by the yeast. There are hints of hops here too, of nutmeg and rose, orange and ginger. There is also salt in the intense and lively finish. The wine has a lot of character.
