Info about the winery
At Salicutti, they renounce stagnation with Tuscan serenity married to German meticulousness. Their azienda has now been converted from organic to biodynamic farming, with the future goal of a self-sufficient place. With the housing of bee colonies, fruit orchard and vegetable garden, as well as energy production from their own groundwater, the idea of the "Cosmo di Salicutti" - a place of self-sufficiency - is being made a reality. When it comes to wine, the Eichbauer family has listened to their heart and the spirit of the village of Montalcino and said goodbye to international grape varieties. All the more reason for their grateful concentration on the local Sangiovese. For the first time with the 2015 vintage, Salicutti bears witness to Brunello di Montalcino from three individual sites. Differentiated and carefully considered, this result of heart and soul, manual labour and intellect allows us to look forward to an exciting future.
Color
In slightly translucent ruby red with garnet rim, the wine shows itself clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
In contrast to its colour, the nose of the wine is dark and earthy. Powerful aromas of plum jam and elderberry cooking are complemented by notes of molasses, muscovado sugar and barley malt. They are joined by slightly peaty and smoky notes of freshly baked brown bread and roasted chestnuts. Thankfully, no sign of the Tuscan jam pot.
Palate
The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino from Salicutti is straightforward and origin-oriented on the palate, and here, too, it dispenses with artificial extract sweetness. Instead, it replaces it with tart sincerity. Red berry fruit is refreshed on the palate many times more than the wine's aroma initially suggests. Juicy, thanks to fine-grained tannin and invigorating acidity, this wine inevitably makes clear how unimportant written down data on alcohol content are when a wine simply feels coherent in itself.
