Wine information

The La Rochelle site in Moulin-à-Vent covers 19 hectares, of which the Chastels own 2.3 hectares. The site is located slightly west of the village centre on deep weathered granite. The Gamay noir à jus blanc, as it is called in full, is around 50 years old and yields between 25 and 35 hl/ha. After manual harvesting and sorting, whole bunches were used. Undamaged berries were placed at the bottom of the concrete cuve, bruised ones on top, so that the Gamay would have a Macération semi-carbonique could pass through. The wine was then aged for one year in used wood.

Color

medium dense garnet red

Nose

The 2018 La Rochelle works in contrast to the Champ de Cour more discreet and is somewhat more acidic. There are more fresh red fruits on the nose. Cherries are found, a few barberries and raspberries as well as blackberries fresh from the bush. There is also a hint of tar and stone, but also sensual notes of cinnamon and vanilla.

Palate

On the palate, the wine shines with an exceedingly juicy fruit of blackberries and cherries, interspersed with a clearly lively and fresh acidity, some smoked meat and smoke, some wood and earth. The Moulin-à-Vent strikes a good balance between power and freshness, offering energy and a present, silky tannin.
