Info
Imalaya comes from a parcel of Carignan Gris planted in 1962. At 500 metres above sea level, there is plenty of granite in the subsoil.
Color
Bright lemon yellow, green reflections
Nose
Marjorie and her husband Stephane have quietly worked their way to the top of the Roussillon. 2020 Imalaya has enormous depth. Rich yellow fruits meet a delicate herbal spiciness with an oriental touch. Ripe peach, candied ginger and caramelised pears come to the fore. A little grilled pineapple and tarte tatin come in handy. Saffron, turmeric and a subtle note of dates add plenty of oriental touches. Pecans and dried herbs, especially marjoram and thyme, as well as kaffir lime leaves give it a wonderful finish.
Palate
It builds up pressure on the palate. The yellow fruits and the oriental spice build up to a wall of aromas, which then threatens to collapse abruptly due to the onset of acidity and - even more so - the striking minerality. Fruit and mouthfeel literally fight against each other until this "wall" collapses. The minerality is dominant and takes over. Always supported by the ideally complementary acidity. In the aftertaste, it shows a certain Mediterranean warmth. Sparse and crisp, it whets the appetite for a second sip.
