There are also notes of black berries soaked in gin, tobacco, green and yellow citrus fruits and lots of stone. There is so much power and substance in this wine that it makes you lose your hearing.

Wine information

240 meters above sea level and up to 40 % steep is the Zellerweg at Schwarzer Herrgott - one of the oldest vineyard sites in Germany. It was first mentioned in the 8th century, but in the meantime it had not been able to keep its reputation and fell into oblivion. Not least thanks to Hans-Oliver Spanier, this has changed fundamentally. Today, it is clear that this site, which is located exactly on the border to the neighboring Palatinate and consists almost of pure limestone, is one of the most exciting Riesling sites in Germany.

Color

medium straw yellow

Nose

Wild and unbound, mysterious and dark, the 2018 edition of the Zellerweg at the Black Lord. When Hans-Oliver Spanier from liquid earth speaks when it comes to his way of producing wines, then you can understand that with this Riesling to 100 %. On the nose, the Riesling is taut and punchy with a touch of petrol and violet flowers. There are also notes of black berries in gin, tobacco, green and yellow citrus fruits and lots of stone.

Mouth

The Riesling presses powerfully against the palate. If it was still almost shy in the fragrance, one notices now that it has it fist thick behind the ears, so to speak. There is so much power and substance in this wine that it makes you lose your hearing and sight. The slight sweetness on the palate is astonishing, reminiscent of sweet ripe lemons or lemon candies, but without any droppy notes. This wine is far from that. Besides this sweet and sour seduction, the Zellerweg Tannin and lots of juicy fruit. The finish is characterized by minerality and powerful acidity. A strong appearance as usual.
