Info about the wine
The red slate Riesling comes predominantly from the "Rothenpfad" parcel. The soil here is very light and consists mainly of very soft, weathered red clay slate. However, some of the grapes also come from the Nonnengarten site, which lies to the west below the Marienburg. Here the soil is also red, but is more marbled and clearly heavier. The wines from this area are always a little more earthy and crisp. These two types complement each other perfectly and have therefore formed the basis for the red slate Riesling since the 2003 vintage.
Color
Bright, sparkling golden yellow.
Nose
The 2020 Riesling "vom roten Schiefer" presents itself still somewhat closed due to its youth. With oxygen contact, it shows its wonderful aromas of vineyard peach, dried apricots, red apple, apple peel, cinnamon, cardamom and clove. An extremely charming representative of its kind with a lot of depth.
Palate
Full-bodied with earthy and spicy aromas and lots of ripe apple and yellow fruit, it shows itself on the palate. Its acidity is extremely lively, giving it a playful approach, which is further underlined by the gentle alcohol of only 11Vol%. It is already a great pleasure at the moment, but will develop its full facet with further bottle ageing. A pleasure on its own and with fine food.
