Vinaturel Collection Winery Michael Andres

We know Michael Andres from his cooperation with the champagne house Andres & Mugler. He founded his own wine estate in 1993. The basis of the business were the vineyards of his parents' cooperative, which were gradually planted with Burgundy varieties besides the existing Riesling. Not everything goes into sparkling wine production! In addition to sparkling wine, Michael Andres produces excellent wines that reflect the special terroir of the Mittelhaardt. He cultivates parcels in top locations, such as the Reiterpfad, Herrgottsacker or the Mäushöhle. In this location, he owns one of the few remaining terraced vineyards in the Palatinate. High above Deidesheim, directly on the edge of the Haard with a fantastic view of the Rhine plain. One of the most exciting sites of the Mittelhaardt.
Together with Michael Andres we have created our own collection. We visited him several times a year, selected the parcels and tasted the barrels in winter, which in the end result in the individual wines. Now, just in time for ProWein, the first wines from the memorable 2018 vintage are available.
For years, Michael has been perfecting his biodynamic work in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. The development of his winery and his wines still gives reason to expect a lot in the near future. Especially in 2018, with the extreme drought and the unusual climatic conditions, it shows that biodynamic farming balances the wines perfectly. The alcohol does not go through the roof, the wines are phenolically ripe, with a refreshing acidity.
Of course, this year had to be worked very acid-conserving Therefore, a longer maceration period was waived. But so the Riesling Buntsandstein shows itself with a juicy ripe, yellow fruit and nevertheless with an animating acidity.

In light lemon yellow with discreet greenish reflexes the wine shows itself clear and shining in the glass.

Unobtrusive, almost shy, this Riesling from Michael Andres begins its flirtation. Floral aromas of acacia, lime and apple blossom enrich the fruity components of crisp nashi pear, mirabelle plum and apple quince. Ethereal notes of honeybush and some green tea, as well as the scent of ungrilled marshmallow give this supposedly small wine expression, wit and Palatine nature.

Also thoroughly likeable on the palate. Damn entertaining as a "small" wine.
Louis de Funès was only 5'4" and made the masses laugh....
Determined, juicy and precise in its aromatics, the 2018 Riesling vom Buntsandstein from Michael Andres is simply about living up to its name. With its animating acidity and agile body, it embodies both its origin and the typicity of its grape variety par excellence.
