Tasting note from from 29.09.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Konstantin Weiser and his partner Alexandra Künstler have been making steep-slope wines since 2005. It all began with a small plot in the Ellergrub, which they initially developed with Daniel Vollenweider until the current winery was found in 2008. The pure Riesling winery initially produced exclusively residually sweet wines. Today, the 4.2 hectares of production are divided into dry and residually sweet, with most of the wines being vinified semi-dry and coming exclusively from the Ellergub. The concise phenolic is a guiding theme of Weiser-Künstler's wines, which are always contoured by noble bitters in addition to their concise acidity.

To save the old cultural landscape and the steep slopes, Weiser artists are members of the Klitzekleiner Ring. You could call it preservation by drinking. A good and important mission.

Color

Rich golden yellow with bright reflections.

Nose

Expansive, open-hearted and complex, the 2019 Trabener Gaispfad from Weiser-Künstler shows itself on the nose. The pleasantly ripe nose tells of the vintage in a calm tone and already shows distinctive secondary notes reminiscent of mild spices, ethereal notes and crumbly slate. Lemon balm mixes with light tobacco, along with notes of sage, saffron and fenugreek, all underpinned by dried fruit of cucumber and dried apricots. A clear case for the big glasses.

Mouth

The spicy notes are also reflected on the palate and are congenially fuelled by sublime residual sweetness. The basic character is marked by the ripeness of the vintage Generously contoured, it has a powerful body and boxes in the class of Michelangelo's David, albeit chiselled from slate and not marble. On the palate, it shows first friability, outlined by fine phenolic and dark aromatics, reminiscent of black cardamom and very fine bitter chocolate. The acidity seems illuminating on the palate and carries it into the orchestral finish.
