Michael Andres and Steffen Mugler are among the pioneers of Palatinate sparkling wine. As early as in 1989, they founded the Sektgut, whose wines come from the best vineyards in Deidesheim, Ruppertsberg and Maikammer. The foundations of both wineries are firmly anchored in biodynamics.
The grapes for the base wines come predominantly from the Buntsandstein and over 25-year-old vines. Spontaneously fermented in steel, the wine did not go through any BSA and remained on the full lees until drawing off in the following July. The wine did not receive any sulphur until it was blended and had only 11 free SO2 before the addition of the shipping dosage.
Color
Rich straw yellow with fine perlage.
Nose
The 2018 Riesling Sekt brut from Andres & Mugler is expansive and generous on the nose. Ripe grapes and long aging provide the vinous character of this sparkling wine, whose character is clearly rooted in the bacchic side of life. Varietal Riesling notes of vineyard peach and yellow apples mingle with spicy aromas and subtle fermented tones reminiscent of brioche and hazelnuts. Gingerbread meets dried fruit meets citrusy fresh minerality.
Mouth
With a finely bubbly and creamy mousseux on the nose, it also shows its open-hearted side on the palate. Ripe grapes combine lush fruit with elegant spice and delicate autolysis notes, which are more soufflé than loud and leave the stage to the Riesling. With a dense extract and vibrant acidity, it masters the aperitif situation as well as delicate hors d'oeuvres at the table.
