Wine information
As the name suggests, this nectar comes from the estate's various limestone sites, mainly from a 1.2 hectare Riesling vineyard planted around the village of Gueberschwihr. The wine is composed by a mosaic of small plots, each too small to be vinified separately. Limestone soils are slower to ripen, but offer greater water holding capacity and are therefore more resistant to heat and drought. These wines are typically slow developing, rich in acidity and require time in bottle to develop their potential. Their high acidity and low pH means they ferment slowly and tend to retain residual sugar, as in Vintage 2017. The final bottling took place late, in January 2020.

Color
The wine glass reveals a sparkling, intense golden hue.

Odour profile
The 2017 Riesling Roche Calcaire is dominant on the nose and faithful to the terroir. Its olfactory profile begins with earthy and chalky notes, followed by a noticeable presence of orange, vineyard peach, honey and candied ginger. Exotic spices such as cardamom and turmeric join aromas of tree bark, truffle and meat juice that reveal delicate hints of maturity.

Taste
Charming on the palate, with an extensive exotic palette, fresh pineapple, ginger, and a fine spiciness that blends harmoniously with the sweetness. This Riesling presents itself as a real exception, young despite its more advanced maturity and with outstanding development potential. Ideal with dishes with a balance of acidity and sweetness, also with a hint of spiciness.
