Wine information

The Ried Steinberg site is located in Grinzing, west of Vienna's Nussberg. Facing south, it is mainly limestone and alpine primary rock with lots of quartzite inclusions. The grapes were harvested by hand, crushed and pressed after a six-hour maceration period. The pre-clarified must was fermented spontaneously in stainless steel and aged on the fine lees. The Riesling was lightly filtered, not fined and bottled with little sulfur.

Color

rich, green shimmering straw yellow

Nose

What intensity, you think at first moment. Yes, the Riesling from the Ried Steinberg is full of fruit and spice. Peaches, apricots, oranges and grapefruits are present as well as saffron, some ginger, bacon and garden herbs. It seems ripe and full-bodied, but at the same time fresh and clear.

Palate

On the palate, the full extent of this wonderful fullness and spiciness with a simultaneously discreet ripe acidity is revealed. The wine seems wonderfully elegant and creamy, structured and grippy. This is a charmer where the ripe vintage seems a little sexy, as it were. Aromatically, yellow dominates here in the form of stone fruit and tropical fruit, which is also underpinned here with fine stone spice and a subtle curry note. In the final it becomes slightly salty, somewhat tart and stony, but it remains very juicy.
