Wine information

The Riesling VDP. Gutswein comes from a pre-harvest from most of the estate's classified sites, a complete harvest of the Herrgottsacker in Deidesheim, the Linsenbusch and the Nussbien in Ruppertsberg, as well as the Schlössel and parts of the Kapellenberg and the Biengarten in Gimmeldingen. During the pre-harvest, the grapes that already show early ripeness are harvested. In a later second or third round, the grapes are then harvested for the actual growths, which can thus take advantage of an even longer ripening period and above all the cool autumn climate to intensify the fruit.

Information on the expansion

The grapes are always picked selectively by hand at low yields averaging 60 hl/ha and transported gently as whole bunches to the wine press house. After a not too long maceration period of 3-6 hours, the crushed grapes are gently and slowly pressed, only slightly pre-clarified by settling and then spontaneously fermented with the vineyard's own yeasts. Unfined and untreated, the wine matures in stainless steel and in large, classic wooden barrels until bottling.

Color

Bright and sparkling golden yellow, with clear green reflections.

Nose

The 2020 Riesling VDP. Gutswein has a distinct earthy and stony character at this stage, which gives it a stimulating spiciness. With a little oxygen contact, fruity notes of vineyard peach, apple and quince are added, underpinned by clear citrus notes.

Palate

On the palate, there is a beautiful interplay between fruit and an extremely lively acidity. This entry-level wine from Christmann has tension and a fine minerality. A wine that provides drinking pleasure for every day - and at 11.5 vol%, the bottle empties faster than you can look.
