Nose

For Kai Schätzel, his Kabinett Rieslings are meanwhile something like the new Großes Gewächse. For him, they are the wines that have a higher drinking fluency thanks to their concise sweetness-acidity play with the same complexity and depth. This is why he is expanding his range of Kabinett wines by this new flagship. The Kabinett from Pettenthal is given the suffix "S" and comes from the best plots from the best vines. It is the result of meticulous work in the vineyard and a harvest of up to six passes. As young as it is - typical of Schätzel - the wine smells wild and boisterous with Sponti notes and a slight bucking sensation, which translates into notes of smoke, bacon fat, auto repair shop and bang plates. But this is a hiccup that will eventually pass. After all, this wine isn't meant to be consumed now, but rather in later years when you can KabiNett and Hipping cabinet has long since drunk up. Much more interesting is what comes afterwards. It is an exceedingly clear and precise bouquet of citrus fruits, white and red currants, crunchy pome fruit including peel, herbs and stone.

Palate

On the palate, the wine definitely has the depth of Schätzel's great dry single-vineyard Rieslings. It benefits from his working method, which leads to an acidity of 11 %, a sweetness of 42 grams and an alcohol content of 7.5 % with a very low pH value at the same time. This is as good as unique and leads to a wine with an extremely successful balance, a constant interplay of sweet and sour, light and dark, complex and light on its feet. All of this seems a bit veiled behind a silk scarf of phenolics and spice at the moment, but it will integrate. The pressure on the palate is already there, as well as the great length, which will make the puristic Pettenthal ...that distinguishes us from the rest. Everything else will fall into place in time.
