Out of stock

Filigree and fine, it is structurally chiselled in stone, the vibrating acidity like an electric eel, underpinned by saline minerality and flanking, animating bitterness. Floral notes are reminiscent of orange blossom and elder, citrus notes show up as well as spicy aromas reminiscent of white pepper and kitchen herbs.

Color

Light golden yellow with green reflections.

Nose

The 2016 Riesling Grosse Gewächs from the Ölberg is timid on the nose and only hints at its aromatics instead of spraying them onto the nearest wall in garish colors. Floral notes are reminiscent of orange blossom and elderberry, citrus notes show up as well as spicy aromas reminiscent of white pepper and kitchen herbs. Never unambiguous or even loud, rather a quiet prophecy.

Mouth

With great precision and a crystal-clear core, it flows over the palate like a cool mountain stream over pebbles. Filigree and fine, it is structurally chiseled in stone, the vibrating acidity like an electric eel, underpinned by salty minerality and flanking, animating bitterness. Nothing here is hamming it up; instead, for all its precision and clear ship, it relies on understatement. Despite the warm vintage, the Ölberg has nothing fat or expansive, but sings the quiet song of the terroir, which it translates with a delicate 11.5% exemplary on the bottle.
