Wine information
The "Rothenpfad" parcel is part of the current Marienburg site. The soil here is very light and based on very soft, weathered red clay slate. The particularly steep site has no road access, so machine use is out of the question. For the vines, this means that there is no compaction by heavy equipment, thus ideal conditions for healthy root growth. For the Großes Gewächs, Clemens Busch uses only grapes from the oldest vines, at least 70 years old, from traditional single-pole cultivation. Spontaneous fermentation in old fuder barrels, long yeast storage until August 2020.
Color
Bright golden yellow with delicate green reflections.
Nose
Stony notes, dried ginger, liquorice, privet and nettle on the attack, with sufficient oxygen the fruit notes of lime, vineyard peach, apple, apple skin and firm wood pear join in. A wine that already reveals a lot of depth and complexity on the nose.
Palate
On the tongue, the 2019 Marienburg Riesling Großes Gewächs "Rothenpfad" fires immense freshness, with lime joined by kumquats and a fine tart grapefruit note. Its acidity is present and at the same time fantastically contained, the long finish seduces with bite and fine tannin. A real long-distance runner with enormous maturity potential, a real revelation especially after a few years of maturity.
