Wine information

From a small grey slate parcel with very old vines within the Falkenlay in the Marienburg in Pünderich.

Color

deep golden yellow

Nose

The ripe 2009 Raffes smells lush and intense of salted caramel, shortbread and quince cooked in sugar and butter. It is an intense, distinctive Riesling with a slightly oxidative draw. With air, the quince is joined by a handful of pure citrus, candied lemon and white melon, and a hint of honey.

Palate

On the palate, the intense engagement continues. This is a Riesling that demands full attention. It is dense and complex, again showing quince and lots of stone fruit, spicy slate notes along with a pronounced saltiness, but also mixing with the caramel note here. Despite the power, the sweetness and juiciness, there is a lively acidity in the middle, which raises the flag of freshness far upwards.
