Wine information

This part of the Hallgartener Jungfer lies directly above the Doosberg at about 220 meters above sea level. The soil is erosion material from the Rheingau Mountains with a high quartzite content, mixed with loess loam. Slightly inclined to the southeast, the vineyard is somewhat cooler than the Doosberg. The wine was matured in specially purchased Stockinger wooden barrels. The wine lies in the same barrel every year, which means that the wood influence decreases over the years, which is clearly noticeable in the 2018 vintage.

Nose

The 2018 Hallgarten Jungfer Riesling smells intense and wild, unbound and unique with citrus fruit and hops, tobacco and dried wild herbs accompanied by apple peel, forest floor, moss and mushrooms.

Palate

On the palate the Great Growth Juicy and bright with again citrus and apple fruit, which brings both fresh and friable notes and likewise some apple peel into the taste picture. There is also a silky creaminess and also a phenolic grip on the palate. The finish is all about stone and salt, flowers and the herbal spice that was already evident on the nose. The acidity gives pressure and is accompanied by a deeply anchored minerality.
